Essential Pre-Care Tips for Your Permanent Makeup Appointment
Preparing for your permanent makeup appointment is just as important as the procedure itself. Proper pre-care ensures the best results, promotes smooth healing, and helps you feel confident about the process. Here’s a guide to what you should do—and avoid—before your appointment.
1. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol
For at least 24 hours before your appointment, steer clear of coffee, tea, alcohol, and energy drinks. These substances can thin your blood and increase the risk of bleeding, which may affect pigment retention and healing.
2. Stop Using Retinoids and Exfoliants
If you use retinol, retinoids, or exfoliating acids (like glycolic or salicylic acid) on your skin, discontinue them at least 3-4 weeks before your appointment. These products can make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation during the procedure.
3. Skip the Waxing and Tweezing
Avoid waxing, tweezing, or threading the area being treated for at least 48 hours beforehand. This ensures your skin isn’t inflamed or sensitive during the appointment.
4. Hydrate and Moisturize
Drink plenty of water and keep your skin hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment. Healthy, moisturized skin is easier to work with and holds pigment more effectively.
5. Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications
If possible, refrain from taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood-thinning medications for at least 48 hours before your procedure (unless prescribed by your doctor). Blood-thinning substances can lead to some bleeding, affecting the pigment's placement.
6. Minimize Sun Exposure
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds before your appointment. Sunburned or overly tanned skin can become irritated during the procedure and affect the final result.
Following these pre-care tips will help you achieve the best results from your permanent makeup procedure. Remember, preparation is key to a smooth process and beautiful, long-lasting results.
